Pakistan Earthquake
A massive earthquake in northern Pakistan stunned the world in 2005. As the harsh winter closed in, World
Vision was on the ground providing emergency accommodation and sustenance for some of the 3 million homeless people. With the immediate crisis over, World Vision's efforts at rebuilding healthy communities continues.

Background
On 8 October 2005, an earthquake registering 7.6 on the Richter scale struck northern Pakistan. Approximately 75,000 lives were lost. A further 3 million people were left homeless.
World Vision's response
Within days, World Vision was able to provide urgently-needed relief supplies such as winterised tents, blankets, food, and water. Labouring under the onset of harsh winter conditions, World Vision staff worked with local agencies to distribute hygiene and sanitary items, and provided medical kits and tools to affected families.

Funds raised
Thanks to the generous and quick support of the Australian public, more than $2.2 million was raised to help the people of northern Pakistan recover and rebuild their lives.
Ongoing activities
As the immediate needs of those affected began to be met, World Vision continued to support families living in the region by working on resettlement and rehabilitation. Education, child protection, and livelihood issues became the focus of our programs, which continue today.
