World Vision continues providing basic necessities to people affected by Typhoon Ketsana in the central provinces of Vietnam.

“To date, we have given rice, noodle packs, clean water and torches to 4,500 families in Danang, Quang Tri and Quang Nam Provinces. We’ll continue our relief to another 1,500 families in a couple of days,” said Le Van Duong, Relief and Disaster Mitigation Coordinator.

“We plan to provide rice seeds and building materials to families. We are also expecting to be able to provide their children with notebooks and pens. In addition we aim to repair some damaged schools and their water systems,” Duong continued.

World Vision’s team has accompanied United Nations agencies and other aid organisations in conducting assessments in the affected areas.

Typhoon Ketsana has killed 103 people, injured more than 200, in the central highlands and provinces in Vietnam. At least 23 others are missing. More than 6,376 houses have been destroyed and 171,000 others were damaged or have had their roofs blown off. The disaster has caused initial loss of VND3,064 billion (US$170 million).
